Responsible sourcing
Last updated 6 October 2026
We only broker data that the seller has the right to license, that has been properly de-identified, and that goes to buyers we have vetted. Here are the standards we hold every deal to.
What we will broker
- Data the seller owns, or is clearly entitled to license, for the intended use.
- Data that has been de-identified to a standard appropriate for its content and the buyer's use.
- Data that came from the seller's legitimate business operations.
What we won't broker
- Data obtained unlawfully, through breaches, or in violation of a contract or terms of service.
- Identifiable personal data sold without a lawful basis.
- Special-category data (such as health, biometric or financial hardship data about individuals) unless it has been robustly anonymised, or a specific lawful basis and safeguards are in place.
- Data about children.
- Data subject to export controls or sanctions, unless all required licences are in place.
Buyers
We work with AI labs, research institutions and companies building AI systems. We verify each buyer's identity and intended use, and every licence prohibits re-identification, onward sale and use outside the agreed purpose.
Transparency
Sellers always know who is licensing their data and on what terms. We don't license the same data exclusively to more than one buyer, and we disclose our commission in every agreement.
Raising a concern
If you believe data has been brokered in breach of these standards, email hello@databounties.com. We investigate every report.
